OUR SMALL HERD

Our original four boys came from Ardo Alpacas in Aberdeenshire. We are not alpaca breeders and have our boys purely as pets. Our experience is that you don't need to be a breeder and that a 'batchelor herd' can give much pleasure to the owner. We have 5 acres including our big garden and grazing for the boys, 15 miles north of Inverness, Scotland. I spin, knit, felt and crochet with the fleece from the boys.

Must have 'mist' something!

We've had a couple of days of very misty conditions recently.  This paddock is where the boys should have been but at the very top I can see something.......
Here they are, soaking wet and nibbling at the sparse grass.  Faro (left), Rufus (front) and Fyta with Fidget in the misty background.
Gaucho (left) Wee Eck in front with Fergus behind.
Fidget looking suitably damp in the 'Scotch mist'!
It's either a fencing strainer with ears and legs or it's Wee Eck playing peek-a-boo!  In fact he was chewing on the strainer which some of the boys do from time to time.
The trees at the bottom of the paddock look a bit ghostly in the mist
And finally...........all is not lost in this 'dreich' weather as our first Snowdrops have started to appear.  Before we know it we'll be back to T shirts and shorts!

  1. It's good to be optomistic! Daff's are appearing down here, the ones that haven't drowned.

  2. Nice atmospheric photos. We had mist yesterday, snow today and very cold. If that's heading your way it'll put all thoughts of shorts out of your mind I can tell you, my nose nearly froze this morning.

  3. The farmers over here cut off all the side branches from the trees around the field edges so they look really weird! Something to do with wanting straight trunks for beams! Must try to get some photos...although I haven't heard their chainsaws going this year...so maybe they don't like the rain either!
